About the Dictionary

Kgobokgobo e a Ikgobokanyetsa.

BACKGROUND:

The PanSALB (Pan South African Language Board). The board was established in terms of Act 59 of 1995, as amended in 1999, and its vision and mission are stated herein as:


LEMORAGO:

MOTHEO WA SETHEO: Boto ya Dipuotsotlhe ya Aforikaborwa (PanSALB) se tlhamilwe go ya ka Molao wa 59 wa 1995, o o tlhabolotsweng ka 1999.

Vision

To achieve the equal status and use of all the official languages of South Africa as well as Khoe, Nama and the San languages, and the South African Sign Language.


Mission

To provide for the recognition, the promotion and development of all South African languages, with particular attention being given to those languages that were previously marginalized.

In order for this board to achieve its objectives, some structures were established in the province, e.g. PLC (Provincial Language Committee), SetNLB (Setswana National Language Body) and the NLU (National Lexicography Unit) hereby referred to as SETNALEU (Setswana National Lexicography Unit).
